Sunny Walia, MD is a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at The George Washington University and director of dermatologic laser surgery at the Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center, located at the GW Medical Faculty Associates.
Dr. Walia is a Board Certified dermatologist with 10 years experience, as well as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Women's Dermatologic Society, American Society of Dermatology Surgery, and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Walia was recently named as a "Top Doc" by Washingtonian magazine. Additionally, she is an internationally respected lecturer on skin laser surgery, teaching laser techniques to fellow physicians both here and abroad.
Dr. Walia graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University where she received the John G. Arnold Cardinal Key Award for being the "Outstanding Female Senior of Loyola University", and the Reverend John Mullahay, S.J. Award for "Distinguished Academic Achievement, Integrity, and Leadership in a Science Graduate."
Dr. Walia earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, graduating at the top of her class in the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She then went on to complete her dermatology residency in 1998 at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and subsequently completed the highly selective dermatologic laser surgery fellowship under the direction of Dr. Tina Alster in Washington, DC in 1999.
Dr. Walia has been published in a variety of medical journals including Dermatologic Surgery and the Annals of Laser Medicine and Surgery. She has also been consulted and quoted by the Washington Post, NPR broadcast radio, Imagine Your Health Magazine, and WEBMD medical news.
In addition to her expertise and focus on cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Walia enjoys her continued practice of general medical dermatology, from routine screenings for skin cancers to pioneering new treatment options for acne vulgaris.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Walia enjoys traveling, scuba diving, sailing, hiking and listening to live music (jazz and brass bands).
